There is a couple of night markets around the Vancouver area. One is at the Chinatown area at Pender and Main but the bigger one is in Richmond where we usually go to. The market is crowded with people shopping for bargains and various food dishes. It's quite fun and if you arrive at the last hour the food goes on sale as they have to be sold or otherwise thrown away.

light: science and magic
Experimenting with light. Camera set in one place and moving the light around.
soccer sunday
The soccer season started today and both my daughters are playing. Fortunately their schedule today was staggered enough that I could drive them to their games and still watch some of the game. The younger ones played in a dirt field due to the strike and there sure was a lot of dust stirred up.
disaster drives
These drives failed on my daughter's and my computer. My loss was 3 months worth of photos and my daughter's crash was due to a cooling fan failure which also ruined the video card. I have had no luck recovering any of the data on either drive as the drives won't function at all. I have now started a RAID system which started out as 1TB but results in half (500GB) because of the redundancy. So I am now fully backed up using CDs, DVDs and this new Western Digital !TB external hard drive. I shoot way too many pictures and should really delete some. I will have to find a way to make this all one smooth workflow.
Salinas - John Steinbeck home
We stayed in Salinas while we were in the Monterey area. It is a small town but it looks like it has been improved since my brother visited here. He told us to be careful at all times. We went around the old part of town and visited the house that John Steinbeck was born. I remember reading his books even before my teens I think.

the bar area
Homeward bound after a great vacation. A bit tiring but lots to see and enjoy. And on the way home we just had to stop at Mystic Pizza for a pizza of course. It was crowded even at 2pm but we were not to be denied. The pizza tasted really good.
aaargh...a shark
Day 7 and we are all worn out. So it was a late breakfast, mini-golf, a little beach time and a lobster dinner. In the meantime, a chance to practice Strobist techniques (cup, golf and warm-up gel to manufacture sun in an overcast day).
House of the Seven Gables - Nathaniel Hawthorne
The straw that broke the camel's back. There wa lot of interesting places to see in the 2 cities and in fact we missed a lot. At Salem we visited the House of the 7 Gables and a witches' attraction. In Boston we saw MIT, Harvard and walked part of the Freedom Trail. I did get to see the Cheer's Bar but never got to sit and drink there. Bummer. But we were tired from walking all day and the heat and humidity even got to me such that I just didn;t have the energy to return the next day and see more of Boston. Opportunity lost.
